Good habits start early. We try to make a child's visit calm, familiar, and unhurried — explaining each step in words they understand.
For many children, a positive first experience shapes how they feel about the dentist for years. Our team takes a "tell, show, do" approach: we talk a child through what will happen, let them see the instruments, then begin gently. Where a child is anxious or needs more involved treatment, additional comfort and sedation options can be discussed.
Most of children's dentistry is preventive — regular check-ups, professional cleans, fluoride and fissure sealants — alongside guidance for parents on brushing, diet and habits at home. Eligible children may have basic dental services bulk-billed through the Child Dental Benefits Schedule. Treatment options and suitability are confirmed at consultation, and outcomes vary between children.

Custom-fitted mouthguards & appliances.
For children playing sport, a custom-fitted mouthguard is shaped to your child's teeth for a closer fit than a boil-and-bite guard. We also make appliances to help manage habits such as night-time grinding. Suitability is confirmed after a clinical assessment, and your dentist will talk through the options with you.

No medication
In-chair comfort
For most routine visits, a calm "tell, show, do" approach and a familiar environment are all that's needed — no sedation involved.

Happy gas
Nitrous oxide (relative analgesia)
"Happy gas" can help suitable, mildly anxious children feel more relaxed during treatment. It is breathed in through a small mask and wears off quickly afterwards.

Sleep dentistry
IV sedation & general anaesthesia
For suitable patients needing more extensive treatment or with significant anxiety, sedation or general anaesthesia is arranged in partnership with Geelong Sleep Dentistry, with a specialist anaesthetist.

Adapted care
Special-needs pathways
Children with additional medical or behavioural needs can be supported with adapted appointments and, where appropriate, a sedation or anaesthetic pathway.
Suitability for any comfort or anaesthetic option is determined at a clinical assessment and depends on your child's age, health and the treatment required. All sedation and general anaesthesia carry risks as well as benefits, which we discuss with you fully before any treatment proceeds. Not every child is suitable, and outcomes vary between individuals.

Child Dental Benefits
The Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) is an Australian Government program that helps cover the cost of basic dental services for eligible children. We bulk-bill eligible items, so there is no out-of-pocket cost for covered services within the cap.

Who's eligible
Eligibility
Children aged 0–17 for at least one day of the calendar year, who are eligible for Medicare and whose family receives a qualifying Australian Government payment. Eligibility is confirmed before treatment.

What's covered
Covered services
Basic dental services such as examinations, x-rays, cleans, fissure sealants, fillings, root canals and extractions. Orthodontics, cosmetic work, and hospital-based services are not covered.

The cap
How much?
Up to $1,158 per eligible child over two consecutive calendar years where the period begins in 2026 (or $1,132 if it began in 2025). The cap is set by the Government and indexed each January.

Day to day
Check & book
You can check eligibility and your balance via your Medicare online account through myGov. Let our reception know you'd like to use CDBS when booking your child's visit.

When should my child first visit?
A common guide is "first visit by the first birthday," or when the first tooth appears — usually between 6 and 12 months. An early visit helps your child get used to the practice.
How do I clean baby teeth?
Once teeth appear, use a small soft-bristled brush twice a day, including before bed. Use an age-appropriate amount of fluoride toothpaste — ask us what suits your child's age.
My child plays sport.
A custom-fitted mouthguard is shaped to your child's teeth for a comfortable fit and is generally preferred over an off-the-shelf option for contact and ball sports.
What should I bring?
Your child's Medicare card, any CDBS eligibility notice, and a short list of any concerns. Let reception know in advance if your child feels anxious about dental visits.
