Do your child’s teeth matter?

Since every child is different, children’s dentistry has a wide range of approaches to help a child complete needed dental treatment.

A pediatric dentist makes recommendations of behaviour guidance methods for a child based upon health history, special health care needs, dental needs, type of treatment required, the consequences of no treatment, emotional and intellectual development, and parental preferences.

At Norlane Dental Surgery, we provide comfortable dental care and a comfortable environment for your child.

What does Children’s Dentistry do?

  • Diagnose oral diseases
  • Promote oral health
  • Create treatment plans to maintain the child’s oral health
  • Interpret X-rays and diagnostic tests
  • Ensure the safe administration of anaesthetics
  • Monitor the growth and development of the child’s teeth and jaws
  • Perform surgical procedures on the teeth, bone and soft tissues of the oral cavity
  • Repair or fill decayed teeth
  • Fix dental injuries, including fractured, displaced, and knocked out teeth

Children’s Dental Care Tips

We will provide you with tips on how to take care of your child’s teeth at home, including the proper way to brush and floss your child’s teeth and additional information based on your child’s oral health condition.

Another topic that’s typically addressed is your child’s eating habits and what parents should do to help protect their child’s teeth and gums.

As a general measure, parents should keep their children away from sugary and starchy foods. Also, a child should never sleep while nursing or with juice or milk in their bottle.

Your baby’s first teeth are important. Developmental stages that are vital to your child’s future dental health depends on them.

Children’s dentistry provides parents with a guide for oral care so that children will have excellent dental hygiene as they mature.

We know dental emergencies can happen any time, and we are here for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

How should I clean my baby's teeth?

A soft-bristled toothbrush, especially those designed for infants, is the best choice for infants. Brushing teeth at least once a day, at bedtime, will remove plaque bacteria that can lead to tooth decay.

At what age should my child have his/her first dental visit?

“First visit by first birthday” is the general rule. To prevent dental problems, your child should see a paediatric dentist when the first tooth appears, usually between 6 and 12 months.

My child plays sports. How should I protect my child's teeth?

A mouthguard should be your top priority on your child’s list of sports essentials. Athletic mouthguards, are made of soft material and fit comfortably to the shape of the upper teeth.
