How long does All-On-X treatment take?

Timeframes vary between patients. For some suitable patients a fixed provisional bridge can be fitted shortly after implant placement, followed by a healing period before the final bridge. Your dentist will outline the expected stages for your situation after assessment.

What role does my jawbone play?

Implants need adequate jawbone to integrate and stay stable — a process called osseointegration. Angling the back implants can allow use of available bone and may reduce the need for bone grafting in some patients, but this depends on individual assessment.

How long do All-On-X implants and bridges last?

Longevity varies and depends on factors such as general health, oral hygiene, smoking, bite forces and regular maintenance visits. Bridges may need repair or replacement over time. Your dentist will discuss bridge material options and maintenance needs with you.

What are the risks of All-On-X treatment?

Understanding the treatment

How All-On-X full-arch implants work.

All-On-X describes a treatment approach in which a complete arch of replacement teeth is fixed to a small number of dental implants.

The "X" reflects that the number of implants is planned for each person — commonly four, sometimes five or six — depending on bone volume, bite and clinical findings. You may also hear it called All-On-4 or a fixed full-arch bridge.

Full-arch support from fewer implantsOften two upright implants at the front and two angled implants towards the back of the jaw, positioned to make use of available bone.
A fixed provisional bridge, where suitableFor patients who meet clinical criteria, a fixed provisional bridge may be fitted shortly after implant placement while healing takes place.
Reduced need for grafting in some casesAngling the back implants can allow use of existing bone and may reduce the need for bone grafting for some patients. Grafting is still required in some situations.

What full-arch implant treatment involves

All-on-X describes a group of techniques for replacing a full arch of teeth with a fixed bridge supported by a small number of implants placed in the jaw. The approach is planned individually, and the number and angle of implants differs from person to person.

Full-arch restoration

A fixed bridge is supported by several implants rather than one implant per tooth, which can reduce the total number of implants required for suitable patients.

Angled placement

Implants towards the rear of the jaw may be placed at an angle to make use of available bone. Whether this is appropriate depends on your own anatomy and imaging.

Provisional teeth

In some cases a temporary fixed bridge can be fitted early in treatment. This is not possible for everyone and depends on clinical findings on the day.
